The National Football League (NFL) is known for its talented players and thrilling games. Week 9 of the 2020 season was no exception, as two players made history. Iowa State quarterback Brock Purdy and Minnesota Vikings running back DaRon Bland both had record-breaking performances that earned them NFL Players of the Week honors.
Brock Purdy, a sophomore at Iowa State, set a new school record for most passing yards in a single game. He threw for an impressive 498 yards and four touchdowns in a win against Oklahoma State. This performance earned him the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award and the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week award. Purdy’s performance was also the third-highest passing total in Big 12 history.
DaRon Bland, a rookie running back for the Minnesota Vikings, also made history in Week 9. He became the first player in NFL history to have three rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns in a single game. His performance helped the Vikings defeat the Detroit Lions 34-20. Bland’s five total touchdowns earned him the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award.
