The Little Breakfast Situation has been a hot topic in college football this year. In the summer of 2020, Cam Akers, a five-star running back, transferred from Florida State to the University of Alabama. Shortly after, Bryce Young, another five-star recruit, suffered a season-ending injury. This left the Crimson Tide with a major hole in their backfield.
Since then, Alabama has been searching for a replacement for Akers and a backup for Young. The search has been difficult due to the limited number of available players due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the Tide have been able to find some talented players to fill the void left by Akers and Young.
One of the players that Alabama has turned to is freshman running back Jase McClellan. McClellan was a four-star recruit out of Aledo, Texas and was ranked as the No. 3 running back in the 2020 class. He has been impressive in his first few games with the Tide, rushing for over 100 yards in each of his first three games. He has also shown an ability to catch passes out of the backfield, which is something that Akers was known for.
Another player that Alabama has turned to is freshman quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa. Tagovailoa is the younger brother of former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and was also a four-star recruit out of Hawaii. He has been impressive in his first few games with the Tide, throwing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns in his first two starts. He has also shown an ability to run the ball, which is something that Young was known for.
Overall, Alabama has done a good job of finding replacements for Akers and Young. McClellan and Tagovailoa have both been impressive in their first few games and have shown that they can be effective players for the Tide. It remains to be seen how they will perform over the course of the season, but so far they have done a good job of filling the void left by Akers and Young.
