Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns have made a major announcement: C.J. Stroud has been named the starting quarterback for the upcoming season. This is a major milestone for the program, as Stroud is the first true freshman to be named the starting quarterback since Colt McCoy in 2006.
Stroud, a native of Rancho Cucamonga, California, was a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school. He was ranked as the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the 2020 recruiting class by 247Sports and was the No. 33 overall recruit in the nation. He was also a four-star recruit according to ESPN and Rivals.
Stroud comes to Texas with a wealth of experience, having played in the Elite 11 finals and the All-American Bowl. He was also named the MVP of the All-American Bowl after throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for two more.
The Longhorns have high hopes for Stroud and believe he can lead them to success. Head coach Tom Herman said, “We’re excited to have C.J. as our starting quarterback. He’s a great leader and has all the tools to be successful at this level. We’re looking forward to seeing him lead this team to great things this season.”
Stroud will be joined in the backfield by running back Bijan Robinson, who was also a highly-touted recruit coming out of high school. Robinson was ranked as the No. 1 running back in the 2020 recruiting class by 247Sports and was the No. 16 overall recruit in the nation.
The Longhorns have high expectations for this season and believe Stroud and Robinson can help them reach their goals. With Stroud at quarterback and Robinson in the backfield, Texas is poised to have a successful season and make a run at the Big 12 title.
