The NFL offseason is in full swing and teams are looking to make moves to improve their rosters. One of the most intriguing stories of the offseason has been the recent visit of Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr to the New York Jets for a breakfast meeting.
Carr, who has been the Raiders starting quarterback since 2014, is coming off a disappointing season in which he threw for 3,123 yards and 19 touchdowns. He was also sacked a career-high 51 times. With the Raiders looking to move on from Carr, the Jets have emerged as a potential landing spot for the veteran quarterback.
The breakfast meeting between Carr and the Jets was reportedly held at the team’s facility in Florham Park, New Jersey. While no details of the meeting have been released, it is believed that the two sides discussed a potential trade for Carr. The Jets are in need of a quarterback after trading away Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason.
Carr is an intriguing option for the Jets as he has experience as a starter and could provide a veteran presence in the locker room. He also has familiarity with Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who was the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers when Carr was with the Raiders.
It remains to be seen if the Jets and Carr will reach an agreement but it is clear that both sides are interested in making a deal. If a trade does happen, it could be a win-win situation for both teams as the Jets would get an experienced quarterback and the Raiders would get some much-needed draft capital.
Only time will tell if Derek Carr will be wearing green and white next season, but his visit to the Jets for breakfast is certainly an interesting development in what has been an eventful offseason.
