Jared Goff of the Lions Admits: "It's My Fault"

Jared Goff of the Lions Admits: “It’s My Fault”

Posted on January 20, 2025 by Juragi

Jared Goff, the quarterback for the Detroit Lions, has recently taken full responsibility for his team’s recent losses, stating, “It’s my fault.” This admission comes after a series of disappointing performances from the Lions, which have left fans and critics questioning Goff’s abilities as a quarterback.

Goff, who was traded to the Lions from the Los Angeles Rams in the 2021 offseason, has struggled to find his footing with his new team. Despite showing promise in his early career with the Rams, including leading them to a Super Bowl appearance in 2019, Goff’s performance has been inconsistent since joining the Lions.

In a recent press conference, Goff addressed these concerns head-on. “I need to be better,” he said. “I’m the quarterback of this team, and when we’re not winning, that falls on me. It’s my fault.”

This is not the first time Goff has shouldered the blame for his team’s struggles. After a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in October, Goff admitted that he needed to “step up” and “play better.” However, his recent statement is perhaps his most direct admission of responsibility yet.

Goff’s admission comes at a time when the Lions are struggling to turn their season around. With a record of 0-8, they are currently the only team in the NFL without a win this season. Despite this, Goff remains optimistic about his team’s chances of improving.

“We’ve got a lot of football left to play,” he said. “We’re not going to give up. We’re going to keep fighting and keep working to get better.”

While Goff’s honesty and willingness to take responsibility have been praised by some, others believe that the quarterback needs to focus more on improving his performance on the field. Critics argue that while taking responsibility is important, it is ultimately Goff’s actions on the field that will determine whether the Lions can turn their season around.

In response to these criticisms, Goff has reiterated his commitment to improving his performance. “I know I need to be better,” he said. “I’m working every day to improve and help this team win.”

Despite the Lions’ struggles, Goff’s teammates have expressed their support for their quarterback. Several players, including wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and running back D’Andre Swift, have publicly backed Goff, stating that the team’s struggles are a collective issue and not solely the fault of their quarterback.

While it remains to be seen whether Goff can turn his performance around and lead the Lions to a win, his willingness to take responsibility for his team’s struggles is a testament to his leadership. Whether this will translate into improved performance on the field, however, is yet to be seen.
