The Tennessee Titans suffered a major blow to their 2019 season when defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons tore his ACL during a practice session on August 20th. The injury will sideline Simmons for the entire season, leaving the Titans without one of their most promising young players.
Simmons was selected by the Titans with the 19th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. He was expected to be an immediate contributor on the defensive line and help the Titans improve their pass rush. Simmons had a standout career at Mississippi State, where he was a two-time All-SEC selection and a first-team All-American in 2018.
The injury is a major setback for the Titans, who were hoping to build on their 9-7 record from last season and make a run at the playoffs. Without Simmons, the Titans will have to rely on veterans Jurrell Casey and DaQuan Jones to anchor the defensive line. They also signed veteran free agent Cameron Wake to help fill the void left by Simmons.
The Titans have expressed their support for Simmons and are confident that he will make a full recovery. Head coach Mike Vrabel said, “Jeffery is an important part of our team and we are all disappointed that he won’t be able to contribute this season. We are committed to helping him get back to full health and look forward to seeing him back on the field in 2020.”
Simmons’ injury is a major setback for the Titans, but they remain optimistic about their chances this season. With a strong defense and an offense led by quarterback Marcus Mariota, the Titans still have the potential to make a run at the playoffs. They will just have to do it without one of their most promising young players.
