On Sunday, the San Diego Chargers were humiliated by the Oakland Raiders in a record-breaking 63-21 loss. The Raiders scored the most points ever against the Chargers in a single game, and the 42-point margin of defeat was the largest in the team’s history.
The Chargers had no answer for the Raiders’ offense, which scored touchdowns on their first six possessions. Quarterback Derek Carr threw for four touchdowns and ran for another, while running back Josh Jacobs rushed for 112 yards and three touchdowns.
The Chargers’ defense was unable to stop the Raiders’ attack, and their offense was unable to keep up. Quarterback Philip Rivers threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns, but he was intercepted twice and sacked three times. Running back Melvin Gordon was held to just 44 yards on 13 carries.
The Chargers’ special teams were also ineffective, allowing a blocked punt that was returned for a touchdown and a kickoff return for a touchdown.
The loss was a huge disappointment for the Chargers, who had been hoping to make a playoff run this season. They now have a 4-7 record and are all but eliminated from postseason contention.
The Raiders, meanwhile, improved to 6-4 and remain in the hunt for a wild card spot in the AFC.
The Chargers will look to rebound from this embarrassing loss when they take on the Denver Broncos next week. They will need to play better on both sides of the ball if they are to have any chance of winning.
