Night Football
On Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers faced off in the final preseason game of the year. While the starters for both teams were held out of the game, it was the performance of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett that stole the show.
Pickett, a rookie out of Pittsburgh University, was given the opportunity to start in the game and he took full advantage of it. He completed 11 of his 15 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Steelers.
Pickett’s performance was a bright spot for the Steelers in what has been a difficult preseason. The team has struggled to find consistency on offense and Pickett’s performance gives them hope that he could be the answer at quarterback.
The Steelers have been searching for a long-term answer at quarterback since Ben Roethlisberger’s injury last season. While Mason Rudolph and Devlin Hodges have both shown flashes of potential, neither has been able to consistently move the offense.
Pickett’s performance on Thursday night gives the Steelers hope that he could be the answer they’ve been looking for. He showed poise in the pocket, accuracy with his throws, and an ability to make plays with his feet.
While it is too early to tell if Pickett can be the long-term answer for the Steelers, his performance on Thursday night was certainly encouraging. If he can continue to play at this level, he could be the spark that the Steelers need to get their offense back on track.
